The places we inhabit shape the states of our hearts. The tradition encourages making the home a place of remembrance rather than heedlessness: 'Do not make your houses graves,' said the Prophet (s); 'indeed, Shaytan flees from a house in which Surah al-Baqarah is recited.'
A home of light and order invites tranquillity. Cleanliness, simplicity, and a clean corner set aside for prayer and the Qur'an give the body a place where the heart has knelt before. Recitation, supplication, and salawat heard within the walls fill the space with mercy.
The environment also includes our company and what enters through the senses — speech, images, and noise. Reducing heedless distraction and greeting one another with peace (salam) turns the household into a small sanctuary, a sacred space that is then carried out into ordinary life.
This is spirituality made concrete: not only what we believe, but where and how we live. Tending the home as a place of God's remembrance is itself a form of worship, shaping the heart of the whole family day by day.
