Taʿqībāt & Routines

The shared remembrances to say after every ṣalāh, before rising from your place. Begin with takbīr and seeking forgiveness, then the Tasbīḥ of Lady Fāṭimah (s).

   اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ

   Allāhu Akbar

   Allah is the Greatest.

   Raise the hands in takbīr to mark the end of the prayer.

   أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ رَبِّي وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ

   Astaghfirullāha Rabbī wa atūbu ilayh

   Allāhumma anta as-salām, wa minka as-salām, tabārakta yā dhā'l-jalāli wa'l-ikrām

   O Allah, You are Peace, and from You comes peace. Blessed are You, O Owner of Majesty and Honour.

   Allah is the Greatest (34×); all praise belongs to Allah (33×); glory be to Allah (33×) — the Tasbīḥ of Lady Fāṭimah al-Zahrāʾ (s).

   Strongly emphasised after every obligatory prayer.

   لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

   Lā ilāha illā'llāhu waḥdahu lā sharīka lah, lahu'l-mulku wa lahu'l-ḥamd, wa huwa ʿalā kulli shay'in qadīr

   There is no god but Allah, alone, without partner. To Him belongs the dominion and all praise, and He has power over all things.

   Āyat al-Kursī — Allāhu lā ilāha illā huwa'l-ḥayyu'l-qayyūm…

The dawn litany: light-seeking supplications of the Ahl al-Bayt to open the day under Allah's protection.

   سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ الْعَظِيمِ وَبِحَمْدِهِ

   Subḥāna'llāhi'l-ʿaẓīmi wa bi-ḥamdih

   Glory be to Allah the Magnificent, and praise be to Him.

   Recited ten times after Fajr to be guarded from misfortune.

   بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ، لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ الْعَلِيِّ الْعَظِيمِ

   Bismi'llāhi'r-raḥmāni'r-raḥīm, lā ḥawla wa lā quwwata illā billāhi'l-ʿaliyyi'l-ʿaẓīm

   In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate; there is no power nor strength except through Allah, the Most High, the Most Great.

   Recited seven times at dawn (and again at sunset) in reliance on Allah.

   لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ، يُحْيِي وَيُمِيتُ وَهُوَ حَيٌّ لَا يَمُوتُ، بِيَدِهِ الْخَيْرُ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

   Lā ilāha illā'llāhu waḥdahu lā sharīka lah, lahu'l-mulku wa lahu'l-ḥamd, yuḥyī wa yumīt, wa huwa ḥayyun lā yamūt, biyadihi'l-khayr, wa huwa ʿalā kulli shay'in qadīr

   There is no god but Allah, alone, without partner. To Him belongs the dominion and praise. He gives life and death and is Living, never dying. In His hand is all good, and He is able to do all things.

   The emphasised after-Fajr declaration, also said after Maghrib.

   لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ الْمَلِكُ الْحَقُّ الْمُبِينُ

   Lā ilāha illā'llāhu'l-maliku'l-ḥaqqu'l-mubīn

   There is no god but Allah, the Sovereign, the Real, the Manifest Truth.

   Sūrat al-Tawḥīd — Qul huwa'llāhu aḥad…

   Surah al-Ikhlāṣ (112) — recited as remembrance, affirming Allah's absolute oneness.

   اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَجِّلْ فَرَجَهُمْ

   Allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā Muḥammadin wa āli Muḥammad, wa ʿajjil farajahum

   O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and the Family of Muhammad, and hasten their relief.

   اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ بِحَقِّ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَلَيْكَ أَنْ تَجْعَلَ النُّورَ فِي بَصَرِي، وَالْبَصِيرَةَ فِي دِينِي، وَالْيَقِينَ فِي قَلْبِي، وَالْإِخْلَاصَ فِي عَمَلِي، وَالسَّلَامَةَ فِي نَفْسِي، وَالسَّعَةَ فِي رِزْقِي

   Allāhumma innī as'aluka bi-ḥaqqi Muḥammadin wa āli Muḥammad… an tajʿala'n-nūra fī baṣarī, wa'l-baṣīrata fī dīnī, wa'l-yaqīna fī qalbī…

   O Allah, I ask You by the right of Muhammad and his Family to place light in my sight, insight in my religion, certainty in my heart, sincerity in my deeds, safety in my soul, and abundance in my provision.

   بِاللَّهِ اعْتَصَمْتُ، وَبِاللَّهِ أَثِقُ، وَعَلَى اللَّهِ أَتَوَكَّلُ

   Billāhi'ʿtaṣamtu, wa billāhi athiqu, wa ʿala'llāhi atawakkal

   With Allah I seek protection; in Allah I trust; upon Allah I rely.

   A litany of Imam al-Ṣādiq (a), repeated ten times after Ẓuhr.

   اللَّهُمَّ لَا تَدَعْ لِي ذَنْبًا إِلَّا غَفَرْتَهُ، وَلَا هَمًّا إِلَّا فَرَّجْتَهُ، وَلَا سُقْمًا إِلَّا شَفَيْتَهُ، وَلَا عَيْبًا إِلَّا سَتَرْتَهُ، وَلَا رِزْقًا إِلَّا بَسَطْتَهُ، وَلَا خَوْفًا إِلَّا آمَنْتَهُ، وَلَا سُوءًا إِلَّا صَرَفْتَهُ، وَلَا حَاجَةً هِيَ لَكَ رِضًا وَلِيَ فِيهَا صَلَاحٌ إِلَّا قَضَيْتَهَا

   Allāhumma lā tadaʿ lī dhanban illā ghafartah, wa lā hamman illā farrajtah, wa lā suqman illā shafaytah…

   O Allah, leave no sin of mine unforgiven, no worry unrelieved, no illness unhealed, no fault uncovered, no provision unspread, no fear unsecured, no evil unturned, and no need in which lies Your pleasure and my good unanswered.

   اللَّهُمَّ إِنْ عَظُمَتْ ذُنُوبِي فَأَنْتَ أَعْظَمُ، وَإِنْ كَبُرَ تَفْرِيطِي فَأَنْتَ أَكْبَرُ، وَإِنْ دَامَ بُخْلِي فَأَنْتَ أَجْوَدُ

   Allāhumma in ʿaẓumat dhunūbī fa-anta aʿẓam, wa in kabura tafrīṭī fa-anta akbar, wa in dāma bukhlī fa-anta ajwad

   O Allah, if my sins are enormous, You are greater; if my neglect is immense, You are greater still; if my stinginess persists, You are more generous.

   A humble plea of Imam Mūsā al-Kāẓim (a).

   Subḥānallāh, al-ḥamdu lillāh, Allāhu Akbar, lā ilāha illā'llāh

   Glory be to Allah; all praise to Allah; Allah is the Greatest; there is no god but Allah.

   Imam al-Riḍā (a) would recite these in abundance after ʿAṣr, then perform a prostration of gratitude (sujūd al-shukr).

   Allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā Muḥammadin an-nabiyyi wa ʿalā dhurriyyatihi wa ʿalā ahli baytih

   O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad the Prophet, his offspring, and his Household.

   Recite Qur'an 33:56, then this blessing, after Maghrib.

   Al-ḥamdu lillāhi'lladhī yafʿalu mā yashā', wa lā yafʿalu mā yashā'u ghayruh

   All praise is to Allah who does whatever He wills, and none but Him can do what he wills.

   اللَّهُمَّ أَجِرْنَا مِنَ النَّارِ سَالِمِينَ، وَأَدْخِلْنَا الْجَنَّةَ بِسَلَامٍ آمِنِينَ، وَتَوَفَّنَا مُسْلِمِينَ، وَأَلْحِقْنَا بِالصَّالِحِينَ بِفَضْلِكَ وَرَحْمَتِكَ يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ

   Allāhumma ajirnā mina'n-nāri sālimīn, wa adkhilna'l-jannata bi-salāmin āminīn, wa tawaffanā muslimīn, wa alḥiqnā bi'ṣ-ṣāliḥīn bi-faḍlika wa raḥmatika yā arḥama'r-rāḥimīn

   O Allah, grant us salvation from the Fire in safety, admit us into Paradise in peace and security, make us die in submission, and join us with the righteous by Your grace and mercy, O Most Merciful of the merciful.

   Glory be to You; there is no god but You. Forgive me all my sins, for none forgives all sins except You.

   اللَّهُمَّ عَافِنَا مِنْ كُلِّ بَلَاءِ الدُّنْيَا، وَاصْرِفْ عَنَّا شَرَّ الدُّنْيَا وَشَرَّ الْآخِرَةِ، وَارْزُقْنَا خَيْرَ الدُّنْيَا وَخَيْرَ الْآخِرَةِ بِفَضْلِكَ وَرَحْمَتِكَ يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ

   Allāhumma ʿāfinā min kulli balā'i'd-dunyā, wa'ṣrif ʿannā sharra'd-dunyā wa sharra'l-ākhirah, wa'rzuqnā khayra'd-dunyā wa khayra'l-ākhirah bi-faḍlika wa raḥmatika yā arḥama'r-rāḥimīn

   O Allah, keep us safe from every tribulation of this world, turn away from us the evil of this world and the next, and grant us the good of this world and the next, by Your grace and mercy, O Most Merciful of the merciful.

   اللَّهُمَّ هَٰذِهِ صَلَاتِي صَلَّيْتُهَا لَا لِحَاجَةٍ مِنْكَ إِلَيْهَا وَلَا رَغْبَةٍ مِنْكَ فِيهَا، إِلَّا تَعْظِيمًا وَطَاعَةً وَإِجَابَةً لَكَ إِلَىٰ مَا أَمَرْتَنِي، فَلَا تُؤَاخِذْنِي وَتَفَضَّلْ عَلَيَّ بِالْقَبُولِ وَالْغُفْرَانِ يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ

   Allāhumma hādhihi ṣalātī ṣallaytuhā lā li-ḥājatin minka ilayhā wa lā raghbatin minka fīhā, illā taʿẓīman wa ṭāʿatan wa ijābatan laka ilā mā amartanī, fa-lā tu'ākhidhnī wa tafaḍḍal ʿalayya bi'l-qabūli wa'l-ghufrān yā arḥama'r-rāḥimīn

   O Allah, this is my prayer — I prayed it not because You need it, but out of reverence, obedience, and response to Your command. So do not hold my faults against me; favour me with acceptance and forgiveness, O Most Merciful of the merciful.

   Faman kāna yarjū liqā'a rabbihi fal-yaʿmal ʿamalan ṣāliḥan wa lā yushrik bi-ʿibādati rabbihi aḥadā

   So whoever hopes for the meeting with his Lord, let him do righteous deeds and associate none in the worship of his Lord — the last verse of Surah al-Kahf (18:110).

   Recited before sleep so as to wake for one's intended hour.
